Mom was a great cook.
We loved to eat her stuff.
Even when we left home
We couldn’t get enough.
We wrote her letters asking kindly,
Then followed up more insistently –
“Please won’t you send in triplicate
Your wonderful box of recipes?”
Mom was the best mom ever!
She heard our boisterous pleas –
Sending each and every one she had,
Even how to boil peas!
And wasn’t mom a forward thinker?
Teaching her children to cook and clean?
Without such fine education,
We’d have grown up very lean.
‘Cause nothin’ beats a home-cooked meal –
‘Cept for maybe just one thing…
To cook a meal your mother made,
Back when you were just thirteen.
